April Showers and Lemon Drops

Posted by Mark Cockerille on

I've always loved the rain. I  like when  the skies get dark and the wind picks up. It's the anticipation, the rumbling in the distance. The flag on my porch starts to unfurl and flap a little. I inhale deeply and smell the sweetness of rain before it actually comes. Then the raindrops start! You can see the round circles of droplets start to cover the sidewalk. Easing into the porch rocker, I wait. Then, the deluge! The water runs off the eaves in great torrents. I have about 5 minutes of this blissfulness before the wind blows the rain through the airy porch, speckling me and the rocker with chilly mists. I regretfully take cover inside the house.

This week on What's InSTORE Fridays, I'm featuring umbrellas - children's umbrellas to be exact. I'm never sure if kids like the rain. Many seem apprehensive. This is why letting little children have their own umbrellas lets them see that the rain can be fun. The ones I carry in the store have great fun  designs, from the frog to spaceship motifs and others. Kids can be fascinated by the rain and having their own umbrella makes getting wet, (or not wet!)  lots more fun! I hope you will check out the selection of umbrellas we carry on the online store

Also this week, I feature a cocktail made with the Blueberry Lavender Simple Syrup from Sallie's Greatest out of Charleston. It's a refreshing drink to sip while you watch the spring rains come down!

Blueberry Lavender Lemon Drop

- 1/2 cup Sallie’s Greatest Blueberry + Lavender Simple Syrup
- 1 and 1/2 quarts lemonade
- 1 cup Vodka or sparkling water to taste

In a pitcher, mix Sallie’s Greatest Blueberry Lavender Simple Syrup and lemonade together.

Add Vodka or sparkling water. Serve over ice. Garnish with blueberries and a lemon twist (optional).

While you enjoy your cocktail or while watching the spring rains, please leave a comment below. I'd love to hear from you!
