Celestial Stained Glass and a Space Themed Cocktail!

Posted by Mark Cockerille on

Do you find yourself gazing into the night sky sometimes? If you are fortunate to be out in the country, where the urban lights are minimal and the sky is darker, star gazing can be so peaceful. The best time to see the stars is on a clear moonless night. An added bonus is if it has snowed and the landscape is a soft white, the sky appears to be a dark blue and there are lots of stars visible usually. As a child in Virginia, we would go sledding on Schlusmyers Hill, a huge farm across from our neighborhood. When we would take a break, we could lay on our backs in the packed snow and just look up at the stars. It was so quiet and cold and clear. The stars would twinkle. It was very cold, but we didn't rest long!

To tie in with the store, we have very creative artisans here in Rock Hill. One of them is Norma Gardner. She and her husband are members of the Stargazer Club, who brings their telescopes to the Museum of York County occasionally to let folks view the night sky. Norma also makes stained glass items so it was only appropriate that she added stained glass moons and stars to her list of beautiful items! If you watch this week's "What's InSTORE Fridays" segment, you will see a few of her beautiful pieces which we have on the online store here.

And to celebrate the landing of the Perseverance Rover on Mars last week, I show you how to make a Blue Sonic Boom Screwdriver cocktail. Very space age looking! Check it out on this week's What's InSTORE Fridays video and see the recipe below.

Blue Sonic Boom Screwdriver Cocktail

Makes one cocktail.

  • 1.5 ounces Vanilla Vodka
  • 1.5 ounces Blue Curacao
  • 2 ounces Orange Juice
  • Clear Lemon-Lime soda (diet) (I used Diet Sprite.)

Instructions

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  2. Pour Vanilla Vodka, Blue Curacao, and Orange Juice into a cocktail shaker. Shake for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Strain liquid into a hi-ball glass. Top off with Lemon-Lime soda to taste!

Note: I added at least 3 oz. of Lemon-Lime soda to give it enough fizz.
