My Christmas Stocking

Posted by Mark Cockerille on

When I was little and Christmastime came around, my brothers and sisters and I would get more excited by the day! One year when Christmas morning came, I remember my brother and I got matching red spider bikes with the big ape hanger handlebars! Another year I got the Shoot 'Em up Cowboy game where you would aim and shoot at the hat and it would fly off. Hit his hand? Off came the gun. Hit his buckle? His pants came down!  Hours of fun! But after all the big items were opened and oohed and aahed over, we settled in to open our stockings. We always got the coolest surprises. There was real Silly Putty, whirly gigs, a comb and brush set that looked like a skunk and had wiggly eyes, smoke bombs and chewing gum. It was all mine stuffed in my white stocking! I never knew why I was the only one out of 5 siblings with a white stocking, but I felt special.

Now as an adult, I still find little toys and gadgets interesting, and when I come across something fun, I think what a great fun stocking stuffer it would make. I hope when you go to the Culture & Heritage Museums online store and look under the Stocking Stuffer Collection, you will find some fun items as well. The Hairy Jumping Spider is one of my favorites for getting a laugh!  The little ones like to play tricks on the adults to "scare them".  It really doesn't take a lot to bring a smile to children with little gifts. All of the items in the Stocking Stuffer section are under $10.  Even the nice educational Fandex ID Cards make a great gift and will fit perfectly into a stocking, just waiting to make a child's Christmas extra special.

  • I always saved my stocking for last. It was always exciting to see what was in there. One year I got a little bracket with a “c” on it. I loved it! My granddaughter would love that sloth wrist band.
